Memorials - Rocco
|
I met Rocco when his foster mom, Auntie Faye, brought him to Shiloh Vet for us to check his sore and smelly ear. I walked into the exam room and he took my breath away! I could see the kindness and class in his face. He walked right on to the table for his tip to tail exam. The doctor and I knew that Rocco's ear was probably malignant. Meanwhile, it took me about 30 seconds to realize that the funny feeling in my chest was instant love! Auntie Faye told me about the 11 puppies that were available, but I knew I wanted Rocco! Thanks to the kind people of GoldHeart, I got to share 7 months with the old fella!
With tolerance, and bravery, he let me stick a catheter down his ear canal and flush 2 times a day, every day! Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that he hated thunderstorms. I can replace the door, but I can't replace him. He became a guide dog to my blind dog, Stevie. It took him awhile to adjust and it broke my heart.

He loved everyone he met. He loved going to the dog park. He loved the blow dryer and the vacuum cleaner! He even pooped at the same spot all of the time!

At the end, a tumor erupted on his leg and his ear became too painful to tolerate the twice daily treatments. He laid around more and more, lost weight, but still never missed a meal! Finally, he told me with his eyes that he was tired. I was not ready to let him go, but I owed him for the love and joy he gave me. I pray that Rocco was as happy as I was for those short months.
Thank you, GoldHeart, for trusting me and allowing me to share my heart and home with Rocco.
With Love,
Sue F., Starcie, Fritter, Stevie
