Last Updated: 9 March 2010

The Golden Retrievers posted here are all new arrivals and current available Goldens. The dogs with a bio beside their picture also have contact information for their foster home listed. Please, only contact the foster home if you are already approved to adopt by GoldHeart. We encourage you to fill out an application so we can start qualifying you and your family so that you are ready to adopt when the right dog for you comes along.

Archie (GH-611)

Archie was taken to University of Pennsylvania on December 23rd. The news was good and bad. The bad news is nothing can be done for him surgery wise. He has a condition called Double Chambered Right Ventricle. This is a heart defect that is causing the grade 6 heart murmur. The good news is he can safely be neutered and will have that done at the appropriate age and can then go up for adoption. Archie will be adopted out as a special needs child. Funds will be set aside specifically for Archie for any heart related issues in his future. Archie will need a yearly cardiac ultrasound which GoldHeart will pay for. Routine vet care such as vaccinations, heartworm, flea and tick medications will be on the adoptive family. We will keep everyone posted as to when he will be available for adoption. He will need a very special family.

Buddy - GH-582

Buddy (GH-582)

Buddy was welcomed by GoldHeart a little over one month ago. He had been found wandering along a busy rural highway, a lonely, stray soul. They don't often come much sweeter, more trusting and loving than this boy! During his vet exam, this guesstimated 4 year young boy was diagnosed with Heartworms and received life-saving treatment immediately. He is about to undergo his second Heartworm treatment and once he has recovered from that, providing no other issues arise, he can be neutered in 4-6 weeks. While "under" for his neuter surgery, a very large mass on his neck will also be removed and biopsied. Please, check back for updates.

GoldHeart appreciates your kind continued support that enables us to afford the veterinary care sweethearts like Buddy and many others need. Your generous donations are almost exclusively applied toward in-service Golden's ever rising veterinary care. WOOF-WOOF! Pant, pant, WOOF! (Buddy says Thank you so much!)

Chance - GH-626

Chance (GH-626)

Chance is currently under evaluation. Please check back for his bio.

Crissy (GH-559)

Crissy is 12.5 years young. She is a special golden oldie with a great personality. She recently underwent surgery to have 3 large fatty tumors removed and a small tumor on her eyelid and she came through the surgery with flying colors and is recovering nicely. She has become alot more active since the surgery. Crissy is the perfect house guest with wonderful manners. Crissy can do limited steps and is completely reliable in the house. She gets along well with the other dogs and is good with the cats in her foster home. She is on medication 2x a day for seizures but has not had one for over a year. The medication is very inexpensive.

Crissy just needs someone to love her and give her a nice spot beside your bed and she will return that love 100 times over. If you have a GoldHeart approved application and home visit you can contact Crissy's foster mom at babischaef@comcast.net. Don't miss a Golden opportunity to give this wonderful girl a good home.

Crissy - GH-559

Dino - GH-623

Dino (GH-623)

Dino is currently under evaluation. Please check back for his bio.

Gordon (GH-621)

Gordon is a guy that takes the meaning of gentleman to a whole new level. If he could write his own bio he'd say, "Nine year young ideal companion, not ready for retirement. Looking for reciprocated love with kind folks who appreciate my wonderful qualities, shared joy for life and the motto – age is only a number. I'm fun-loving and moderately active. Even though I like regular walks and playtime outdoors, I'm just as contented to be lounging quietly by your side. I'm really in foster care through no fault of my own and want a forever family to love. Could you possibly be that family?"

As his foster mom, I would have to more than second that description and then some. He walked right into my home and immediately fit right in even though it had to be somewhat stressful for him. He has gotten along with my two goldens from the start and likes children. Right from the beginning, it was obvious he didn't need to be crated for any reason. He's a large framed golden that still needs to lose weight to ward off the effects of early signs of arthritis. He has no problem going up or down my twelve steps. Even though he's large, he wouldn't dream of being pushy. He was playful right from the start but has really felt so much better after having a dental and an infected tooth removed. He has enjoyed playing in the snow since his arrival in foster care. His favorite things are balls (esp. the big Jolly Ball in the yard) and heavy duty nylabones for his enthusiastic chewing. He would need to be supervised with soft toys as he pulls them apart and may ingest them. He would be appalled at the mere thought of counter-surfing. He's a mostly quiet fellow, barking only at passersby on the road in front of the house but quiets when asked. He knows the basic commands, sit and down but could use a little work to be truly reliable with stay and come. I have found him a pleasure to walk on leash and he rides well in the car but likes to make a nest of the blankets before settling down. He would be embarrassed to tell you that he's afraid of storms and loud noises, like fireworks, preferring to crawl into the bathtub until all was quiet again, according to his previous owners. His only health issue is having several fatty lumps. Three of the most suspicious ones were aspirated and came back consisting of fat and are not a serious concern. Two veterinarians from different practices have given the above opinion and an oncologist consulted on the findings concurred. He had a senior profile (full bloodwork) and urinalysis done. All came back normal. All health information is available to anyone interested in adopting him. If you are already approved to adopt by GoldHeart and would like to meet this big loveable gentleman and welcome him as your forever Golden family member, please contact goldengang@comcast.net.

Luke - GH-583

Luke (GH-583)

Meet "Sir Luke," or just "Luke" to his friends, which is everybody he meets! Luke is 9 years old and very healthy - except for some skin allergies. He has been getting desensitization injections (allergy shots) since the middle of January and he tolerates them VERY well. He has had no allergy-related problems since being started on them. He will need to have an injection every three weeks for the rest of his life, which really isn't any big deal. He lives with two foster siblings - a sister and a brother - and gets along with them fine, but he really would prefer to be an only dog so he gets ALL of the attention, which he craves. He's very laid back, and has very good leash manners. Everyone who meets him just thinks he is a sweetheart of a dog! If you would like a laid-back, 9-year-old golden who needs an allergy shot only once every three weeks, please contact us at kubafisher@comcast.net, and be sure to ask about his "butt-scratch" dance!

Murphy (GH-568)

Murphy - GH-568

Hi, my name is Murphy and I am in search of a Forever Home. While I can't tell you much about where I came from or what happened in the last 10 or so years, I can tell you that I was picked up as a stray in southern Virginia, matted with ticks, and landed in an over crowded animal shelter for about a month, sharing a pen with another pup. While everyone at the shelter said I was a great dog...it wasn't the Ritz, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I got lucky and Goldheart agreed to take me in a few weeks ago. After getting some TLC from the local vet and my foster family, I am now feeling so much better and I have been told I fit right in. I enjoy playing with toys, and get along fine with my Goldheart Sister and Brother and even kissed the family cat. I love our family walks and nightly frozen yogurt treats.

I ride well in the car, but sadly am hard of hearing, but pick up well on hand commands for sit, down and shake. I am reliable for at least 8 hours, and except for going after the cat's food, I have stuck to the household rules. I weigh about 68 lbs, and look mostly golden, except for my tail which probably means my Dad was a Lab. I am a little slow getting up on non-carpeted floors and yes, I can handle a few stairs. All and all, with a little supplemental help, I am hanging just fine with my younger foster siblings. If you are looking for a laid back guy, with a great personality and have an approved application, I would love to meet you. Please contact my foster mom, Marie, at mmartinez@atlanticbb.net.

Shelly (GH-589)

Meet Shelly, another golden oldie. This poor girl came in with no name and so matted and infested with fleas she had to be shaved down. Someone took her in as a stray and then did not take care of her. Life on the street was probably better than the home she was taken from. Lucky for her someone called GoldHeart.

Shelly - GH-589

Now she is living the life any golden oldie should live. Plenty of food and water and a nice yard to just stroll around in. She has been fully vetted and is up to date on everything and flea free. The vets think she is about 11 years old. She is being treated for Chronic Dry Eye and will have to continue with those treatments long term. She gets along fine with her foster brother and sister and has even flirted with one of the doggie house guests that came to visit. She does not bother the cats either. Shelly does not do steps well so easy access to the yard is necessary. She likes to go for short walks and seems to be getting stronger and can go a little further every day. She has had an accident or two

since coming to her foster home but is getting better. She can make it all night without going out and day outings for potty breaks are getting fewer. She just loves to lay on the floor and have you rub her belly and hug her. I'm sure this is more attention than she has ever had.

If you have an approved home visit and approval letter and would like to meet Shelly you can contact her foster mom at babischaef@comcast.net.

Tessa (GH-619)

Tessa has found her forever home.
